Residential Program
In the 2006-2007 School year, Progressive Christian Academy opened its first residential house for students with three residents and has since grown to 25. This addition was an important new dimension in our mission of helping students reaches their fullest potential not only as an athlete but also as compassionate, responsible, and successful individuals. With the ability to build from the ground up it enables us to design a program around Christian values while providing a Christ-centered education.
The purpose of the Residential Life Program at Progressive Christian Prep is to educationally and socially prepare students for college life once they graduate from Progressive. The residential life program brings students, staff and faculty together in a supportive and nurturing environment. Above all the residential life program seeks to install the core values of Christian Living and a quality Christian education.
Students in our program receive attention 24 hours a day. Our dedicated residential staff is committed to providing spiritual and mental support to all of our residents. Every residential assistant is charged with encouraging and motivating each student to strive for excellence in all areas of their life. The residential staff supervises residents in the house as well as providing advice, guidance and schoolwork assistance.
A typical school night is structured to provide the students with ample time for study and other activities. Study hall and independent study are held from 7:00 – 10:30 with a half hour break for relaxation and refreshments. The Director of Residential Life and resident assistants supervise study hall with regular assistance from faculty members. Students have the responsibility along with encouragement from the resident assistants to discipline themselves in regular study habits, so that they can succeed academically. A dorm computer lab is available during study hall and on weekends.
Students are required to attend and participate in weekly Bible Studies and Sunday worship services. Weekends are a special time for our residents. This is a more relaxed schedule of recreational time, schoolwork, and household chore time, planned special events and excursions fill the student’s non-school days. Students will also participate in activities outside the school, such as, visiting family and friends, meeting students from other schools, and enjoying the Washington DC metropolitan area.
Our residence houses hold approximately 60 students with plans to expand to 120 students. Each house provides a warm and homey experience designed with students in mind. Students share comfortable bedrooms, two to four to a room. Each house has a family room with a TV, multiple smaller TVs for video games, meeting/study room and a snack/light meal kitchen. Each dorm has its own laundry facilities, a computer room and a telephone although most students bring their own cell phones.
Ultimately, Progressive Prep’s residential program offers students a complete experience. Our residents are challenged to succeed in all areas of life.
