The Bible says: "no weapon formed against us shall prosper"
For several weeks, the media via television and newspaper has taken a personal interest in Progressive Church. However, writers and reporters have omitted several pertinent pieces of information, that we feel the public should be aware.
Don Massey serves as the Senior Pastor of the church and Overseer of the church’s Christian school. At the age of seven his family moved to Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he was raised and educated. His wife of 15 years was born, raised and educated in the Prince Georges County and they are the proud parents of seven wonderful children.
In 1998 the team of Don and Karen under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, started the Progressive Baptist Church, seeking to reach the vision of 1.5 billion with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Realizing that God does not give a vision without the opportunities and tools to make it a reality, in 1999 the couple conceived and birthed the church’s Christian school in the basement level of the church. The Progressive Christian Academy’s enrollment eventually peaked to over 450 students, and later became an accredited institution K3-12 grade. The ministry also opened an accredited Christian college.
However, the school and college were not enough to realize the vision and mission of ministry. The Pastor started a television ministry that reached not only residents of Prince George County, but reached out to the residents of Charles County, Maryland. Later the Progressive Ministry moved across our country’s water and established partnership with foreign missions in Jamaica and Guyana. Though Pastor Massey cherished his commitment to work in foreign missions, he never grew weary in reaching out to the mission field in Prince George’s and Charles County, through revivals, outreach festivals, and youth empowerment workshops and services.
Economic set backs, demographic restructuring, a steady decline in school enrollment, decrease in church membership contributions and many more financial upheavals have all led to the ministry’s decision to file chapter 11 with the United States Bankruptcy Court. And additionally, they are still facing cutbacks, and restructuring in all areas of the ministry.
A paradigm shift has taken place for Pastor Massey, a man who over the years committed his life to helping others. Whether their need be spiritually, physically, mentally, or even financially, Pastor Massey stood in the gap and with God’s direction sought to meet their need. He now finds himself in a different place in his life. He now finds himself reaching out not to help but, in need of receiving help. The enemy has sought to ravage this ministry and leave it barren. But, this pastor continues to stand and declare through Christ he has the victory.
We all face a time in our lives where we are in need of others to stand with us, and just like Moses, we too need someone to hold our arms up when life has attempted to render us too tired and frustrated to hold our own arms up.
If you desire to help us stand, we invite you to partner with this ministry through prayer and/or financial donation. Please forward all acts of kindness to: Progressive Church | 5406 Brinkley Road | Camp Springs, MD 20748 or DONATE ONLINE.
Although it would appear, this ministry who once faced green pastures now faces withered fields. But this pastor calls on his understanding of God’s word and believes this battle is not natural but spiritual. He believes that through Christ, all things are possible and we are more than conquerors through Christ who loves us. No matter what you are led to do, the Progressive Church Ministries thanks you for taking the time to read our story, we encourage you to pass this website on to someone who might be led to lend a helping hand in this time of need.
We pray that God’s blessing will always abound in your life!
